The Chateau des Aspras was built in the 1860s as a holiday house for the Eastern Manager of the Orient Express. Evidence of his ownership still existed when the present owners acquired the Chateau in 1986. A luggage trolley with the words Istanbul Station carved into it was found in an adjacent outbuilding. Although obvious lack of amenities could never spoil the beauty of the place, there were some shortcomings, particularly in the plumbing department. When the present owners took possession there was one shower on the top floor and one WC under the back stairs. The addition of five bathrooms has reduced the queues!

The Chateau des Aspras built in 1860, stands in its own grounds of 14 hectares and is surrounded by its own vineyards and olive groves. It is close to Correns, a small village of some 600 people most of whom are involved in farming and the production of wine and olives. The village prides itself on the quality of the white wine produced by the cooperative. There are three or four private producers in the immediate district including Le Domaine des Aspras, whose wine is well worth tasting.

The house is beautifully positioned in the fold of the hills behind the village, giving it total privacy, yet conveniently close to the village activities. It commands a spectacular view of the valley below it.
